Ferries Scotland to Northern Island

There seem to be four choices of ferries from the UK mainland to Northern Ireland: Stranraer to Belfast, Stranraer to Larne, Cairnryan to Belfast, and Cairnryan to Larne. Is there one website that compares all four - trip duration, vehicles allowed, sailing frequencies, price etc - for ease of comparison? Or must I investigate each route separately? There would be two of us, and we would have a car. Any tips people can offer to help us make a decision would be welcome. Thanks...

Welcome to the Lounge twoflower.

I cannot answer your question. But have a grand time in Scotland. And soon the moderators will move your thread to the UK / Europe board where someone will know the answer.

There are no longer ferries to/from Stranraer – all services moved to Cairnryan a few years ago. There are two operators.

Cairnryan to Larne | Ferry to Northern Ireland | P&O Ferries - UK sails Cairnryan / Larne

I'd fly and hire a car on the other side.

You can compare routes/pricing/times etc on this website

https://www.directferries.co.uk/

There are also routes from North Wales to Ireland in addition to those starting in Scotland.

Thank you everyone. I'll check out all of those websites. Also the flying option.

Yes, we did the North Wales to Dun Laighoaire ferry years ago, returning Ross to South Wales. On that trip we travelled Dublin-Galway-Kerry-Cork-Kilkenny etc. We're now looking to do the Northern Ireland coastline and Donegal. Thanks

Before anyone can give the best advice we need to know the rest of the itinerary - like where you will be in Scotland just before heading yo Northern Ireland, after NI are you planning on dropping the car in the Republic? Or taking the car back to Scotland or England?

If you'll be in say Edinburgh or Inverness, taking a ferry from the far SW wouldn't be practical. Dropping a car rented in Scotland will be very expensive if dropped in the Republic. Taking a car on the ferry will be expensive -- whether it makes sense depends on some of the detail . . .
