Aparthotel Neptun

$ | Grząska 1, Gdansk, 80-833, Poland
Comfortable rooms and flats in this aparthotel are furnished with elegance and simplicity; though not all units are full apartments, even the classic (the most basic standard) rooms have a refrigerator as well as coffee- and tea-making facilities. Deluxe and superior rooms, as well as suites, have their own kitchenettes, complete with a microwave oven and a dishwasher, making them suitable for a longer stay. Although the rooms are brand-new, the place itself is historic. The location is unbeatable: in the very heart of the city, among tenement houses and courtyards of Old Gdańsk. Some rooms offer views to the fantastic, huge Gothic church of St. Mary's; from others, you can see all the way to and across the river. Although the reception area is surpringly small, the staff at the desk are always friendly and helpful, ready to give advice or to assist with transportation arrangements.

Pros

  • Central location in a historic building
  • Reasonable prices
  • Wi-Fi and parking are included

Cons

  • The cheapest rooms are rather small and don't have full kitchenettes

$$$ | ul. Bytowska 4, Gdansk, 80–328, Poland Fodor's Choice

This is easily one of the best hotels in Poland. A peaceful oasis of low, thatch-roofed buildings surrounding a renovated manor, which lies in the so-called Valley of Joy, amidst lovely gardens, ponds, and woods (ask at the reception for a map of walking trails through Lasy Oliwskie). The Old Oliwa quarter and the Oliwa Cathedral with the famous pipe organ are nearby (20 minutes' walk, or a couple minutes' drive). Spacious rooms are furnished with luxurious simplicity, and some ground-floor ones come with porte-fenêtres opening directly onto the garden. Hotel Hanza

$$$ | ul. Tokarska 6, Gdansk, 80–888, Poland

This hotel has one of the best locations in town, right on the Motława Canal. Though modern, the Hanza blends in with its surroundings nicely. All rooms are air-conditioned for those few weeks in summer when cooling off is really necessary, although the system is just a little bit old and noisy. The hotel remains very popolar, so if you want to stay here, make your reservation as far in advance as possible, especially in peak season.

Pros

  • Great location

Cons

  • Books up far in advance
  • Has a somewhat corporate feel

Hotel Hilton Gdańsk

$$$ | Targ Rybny 1, Gdansk, 80-838, Poland Fodor's Choice
With 150 high-comfort rooms (the beds are heavenly!), Gdańsk Hilton is rather cozy and not too overwhelming—and yet they manage to make each guest feel like a VIP. Super-friendly, smiling staff and attention to detail are this Hotel's signature. The location is excellent, in the Old Town, on the bank of the Motława—try to get a room overlooking the water, if you can. In the morning, enjoy the full-spread breakfast, but more importantly, do not miss the visit at the in-house Mercato restaurant for lunch or dinner. Mercato is the winner of numerous, well-deserved awards, and it is most certainly one of the best restaurants in town. They serve "slow food" based on local ingredients, in often surprising but always delightful compositions. The tasting menu is definitely worth a try, each delicious course perfectly matched with a glass of serious wine or spirit to complement it. In the evening, High 5 Terrace Bar offers cocktails, snacks, and night views over the city.

Pros

  • Location
  • VIP treatment

Cons

  • Limited parking

Hotel Królewski

$ | Ołowianka 1, Gdansk, 80-751, Poland
Once the royal granary across the river Motława, this hotel offers rooms overlooking the picturesque Old Town and the Crane (though with these rooms there is a danger you'll spend most of your stay staring out of the window). Rooms are comfortable and clean, although some have slightly dated decor. The restaurant serves breakfast in the morning, and à la carte meals for lunch and dinner. In the summer, outdoor tables by the water are everyone's favourite place to sip a cocktail or a coffee, while swans swim by. You can reach the hotel from the Old Town either by ferry or by a 10-minute walk across the bridge that links Old Town to Ołowianka island.

Pros

  • Romantic location on the riverfront
  • Excellent views from some rooms

Hotel Molo

$ | Podjazd 6, Sopot, 81-805, Poland
This brand-new, Scandinavian-style hotel in Sopot can't be beaten for its convenient location right at the (recently modernized) light-rail and long-distance railway station with a fast and easy connection to Gdańsk and Gdynia. At the same time, it's at the top of the lively Monciak (Monte Cassino) street, the entertainment, dining, and shopping promenade leading straight onto the famous Sopot pier (the "molo"). In fact, the pier and the Sopot beach are only 500 meters away. The rooms were designed in "Scandi" style, which has become fashionable in this seaside town, with wood panels, white walls, minimalist furniture, and no carpets. What is important in summer months is that all rooms are air-conditioned. Simple and pleasant, they are surprisingly spacious for their budget prices.

Pros

  • Super-convenient location
  • Simplicity of room decor
  • Air-conditioned in the summer

Cons

  • Rooms can be a bit too spartan for some

Hotel Sopot

$$ | Haffnera 88, Sopot, 81-715, Poland
This brand-new hotel opened in the last months of 2016 and is located a little bit further from the center of Sopot, in the leafy area around the Northern Park, a short distance to the beach. Hotel rooms and common areas were meticulously designed and may remind you of a luxury yacht. The decoration of the hotel bar is a work of art; particularly noteworthy is the map of Polish Baltic coast, made of glass and looking very much like ice. The rooms are comfortable and modern, simpler and slightly less luxurious than the common areas, with a lot of light-colored wood paneling as the main finishing material; they feel very restful. The hotel offers an upscale restaurant and spa facilities—the latter modest in size, but very chic all the same. Breakfast and some meals can be added but aren't included in all the rates.

Pros

  • Quiet location
  • Brand-new hotel with fresh facilities

Cons

  • The breakfast is expensive (if not included in the price)
  • Still a bit of a work in progress
