The last survivor of the Battle of Jutland (1916) and the only accessible World War I ship, HMS Caroline is a unique vessel which has been sensitively restored alongside an absorbing visitor center. An immersive 11-minute film tells the graphic story of the largest naval battle in history over the fight for control of the North Sea. By the end, 25 ships had been sunk and more than 8,500 men lost their lives. Displays recount personal testimonies of those who served on the ship (they called themselves 'Carries') which a torpedo missed by a whisker. They also reflect the imaginative restoration process now featuring interactive exhibits, touch screens, cybercode games and a naval-themed playpark creating an action-packed family atmosphere. Special care should be taken during your visit since there are steep stairs, uneven floors, trip hazards, low ceilings, and the decks can be slippery when wet.
