Sperlinga
Sperlinga is wedged between the Nebrodi and Madonie mountains and is a fascinating slice of Sicily's interior and one of the island's oldest inhabited areas. The name of the town comes from the Greek word "speloca," which means cavern or cave, a fitting moniker thanks to the town's mysterious cave dwellings carved out of the mountains, a reminder of the area's first inhabitants who chose to live in these stone-carved houses. No one knows the origins of these strange houses, but they are a truly amazing sight to behold.
