Rammagerðin

Miðbær Fodor's Choice

Reykjavík’s oldest gift shop, Rammagerðin showcases scores of Icelandic designers. From traditional lopapeysa sweaters to modern ceramics and botanical skincare, each piece reflects Icelandic heritage and craftsmanship.

Sjoppan Design Shop

Fodor's Choice

Product designer Almar Alfreðsson converted the entryway of his family home on the trendy Listagil art street to create the smallest design shop in Iceland. The 3.7-square-meter (40-square-foot) space houses a curated selection of interesting products by local designers and artists, with items by foreign designers as well. The general theme is cool, playful, and humorous. Ring the bell for service.

Ungfrúin Góða

Miðbær Fodor's Choice

Clothing, housewares, accessories—there's a variety of items you can find at this gift shop. It's certainly less Iceland-focused than other souvenir stops in Reykjavík, but you're bound to see a few locals shopping inside.

Folda Anna

This shop has been selling woolens, knitting kits, sheepskin rugs, and other souvenirs to locals and visitors for more than 20 years. It's a great place to get a traditional Icelandic woolen sweater.

Gallerí Alþýðulist

Based in the same delightful turf-topped store as the information center, Alþýðulist (which translates to “folk art”) sells lots of colorful woolens, souvenirs, and handmade crafts proudly produced in the Skagafjörður area. Opening hours can be sporadic in the winter months, so check their Facebook or call ahead in advance.

Laugabúð

In this charming little corrugated iron house you will find traditional sweets, handmade soaps, and postcards depicting views of Eyrarbakki. Stepping into the shop feels like entering a small museum; it is styled after a convenience store managed by the legendary Guðlaugar Pálsson from 1919 until his death in 1993. Be aware that it's only open on weekends and sporadically in the winter.
