The Westin Grand Hotel Berlin
Friedrichstr. 158–164, Berlin, Berlin, 10117, Germany, Berlin, Germany
Why We Like It
The hotel’s grand, octagonal-shaped lobby, excellent wellness center (including a large indoor pool) and gorgeous garden more than make up for the somewhat pedestrian room design. The Westin’s Heavenly Beds and soundproof windows ensure a restful night stay, even given the bustling central location.
This large hotel in a renovated East German building has a great location on the corner of Friedrichstrasse and Unter den Linden. Rooms have mustard-color floral wallpaper, easy chairs, and the trademark Heavenly Bed found at all Westin hotels. The inner courtyard view is of an attractive garden area with an unusual Dragon House conference pagoda. A full spa with sauna, indoor pool and a modern fitness room is perfect for rainy days.
room
Rooms are practically designed, with coffee machines, a safe that charges laptops, and views of the famed Unter den Linden boulevard to the front, or the quiet garden at the back. Suites—even the junior-sized ones—feature separate sleeping and living areas. Some rooms have balconies. Soundproof bay windows make for a good night's sleep in any room.
YOU SHOULD KNOW Unless you are an SPG member, Wi-Fi costs extra in all rooms—even the higher-end suites.
bathroom
The suites have marble bathrooms with separate showers and tubs, while the spa suites come equipped with whirlpool baths. The superior-level rooms have rain showers.
lobby
The marble-and-brass, octagonal-shaped lobby is light-filled—thanks to a massive glass-domed ceiling—and enlivened with a piano and guests taking a coffee break at the tables.
dining
There’s a French- and Asian-themed menu at Relish, which has a lovely outdoor terrace on Friedrichstrasse in the warmer months.
drinking
The circular Lobby Bar & Lounge has views of the imposing staircase in the hotel's atrium.

LOCATION
Getting Around
Set on the corner of Friedrichstrasse and Unter den Linden, many of the city’s major sites are nearby. The U-Bahn Französische Straße station is just across the street.
Restaurants
There are several gourmet food options, mainly French-inspired, on the lower level of the Galeries Lafayette (4-minute walk), a branch of the luxurious Parisian department store. The volume is loud and the crowd uber-fashionable at the modern, Italian-tinged Crackers (2-minute walk), housed in a former nightclub with a hard-to-find entrance.
