Fodor's Expert Review Hôtel d'Arlatan
26 rue du Sauvage, Arles, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, 13200, France
Editor's Note: This property is currently undergoing renovations.
Once home to the counts of Arlatan, this ideally located 15th-century stone house stands on the site of a 4th-century basilica, and a glass floor reveals the excavated vestiges under the lobby. Digging an excavation in your lobby is just another aristocratic pastime for the friendly owners of this jewel of a hotel, ideally located with rows of rooms that horseshoe around a lovely fountain courtyard. Rooms are decorated with an elegant, light hand, with quarry tiles and Pierre Frey fabrics. The intimate lobby bar is a cool, quiet haven. Breakfast is served in pretty courtside salons.
PROS
- the best French hospitality
- warm welcome from staff
- tasty foods
CONS
- heated pool is quite small
- drinks are pricier than at nearby cafés
