Fodor's Expert Review The Mill
A short hop down the road from Waverley Abbey, this unusually handsome pub is in an old watermill (which is still working—you can see it in the lobby). The menu nicely balances British pub classics and more contemporary tastes; expect to find some excellent fish-and-chips, alongside chicken breast with truffle mashed potato, or a delicious plate of linguine with chili and basil. The huge beer garden—overlooking the mill stream and usually patrolled by a flock of ducks who are very well practiced at begging for crumbs—is an extremely popular spot when the weather's fine. It's also the venue for occasional open-air theater performances by local groups. The pub is on the B3001, 9 miles southwest of Guildford.
