In addition to a historic harbor and revitalized waterfront, Portsmouth has the energy of a working port. At Gunwharf Quays is the soaring Spinnaker Tower, as well as shops, restaurants, bars, and a contemporary art gallery. The main attractions for many visitors are the HMS Victory, the well-preserved flagship from which Nelson won the Battle of Trafalgar, on view at the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard; the extraordinary record of seafaring history at the National Museum of the Royal Navy; and the D-Day Museum (Operation Overlord embarked from Portsmouth). For others, Portsmouth is primarily of interest for the ferries that set off from here to the Isle of Wight and more distant destinations.
