Surrounded by gardens, this converted barn in peaceful countryside 3 miles west of the center of Winchester makes a good base for exploring villages and the South Downs. The ground-floor guest rooms are freshly decorated in neutral tones and filled with personality—not to mention refrigerators stocked with drinks and nibbles—and breakfast includes fresh fruit and free-range eggs (sometimes fresh duck eggs are available). The large, beamed, and galleried sitting room holds a snooker table.
