Hotel Růže

$$ | Horní 154, Ceský Krumlov, 381 01, Czech Republic Fodor's Choice

Converted from a Jesuit school, this excellent, centrally located hotel with spacious rooms is a two-minute walk from the main square. The decor goes for a historical feel, with lots of dark wood. A few rooms have drop-dead-gorgeous views of the castle, so ask to see several before choosing. Note that some double rooms have two narrow single beds, whereas some singles have beds large enough for two. The restaurant offers top-notch dining in a setting that's formal but not stuffy.

Pros

  • Central location
  • Magnificent castle views
  • Quality restaurant

Cons

  • Inconsistent bed layouts
  • Baroque decorations are a bit overdone
  • Service doesn't always come with a smile

This tasteful boutique hotel on the edge of Tábor's charming central square exhibits touches of Bohemian craftsmanship in the architecture, beautiful antiques in the rooms, and elegant, original art on the walls (think shells). Dvořák

$$ | Hradební 3037, Tábor, 390 01, Czech Republic

A bit outside the city center, this former brewery building has been thoroughly renovated into one of the nicest places in town. Upbeat—even slick—modern furnishings decorate this property. The rooms are a welcome change of pace from the puritan, standard-issue bed and nightstands of typical Czech hotels, and the "let's get down" attitude extends to the main lobby and café-bar. Some rooms also have sofa beds, a great boon for larger families. It's clean, well run, and a great choice. The hotel's restaurant, La Cave, is one of the nicest in town, offering creative Czech dishes. At the on-site beer spa, guests can enjoy both a glass and a bath filled with beer.

Pros

  • Modern rooms
  • Free parking
  • On-site beer spa

Cons

  • Can be busy during conferences
  • Weak Wi-Fi at times
  • Swimming pool very small
