The oldest settlement in Carinthia, romantic Friesach is great for wandering. The town is peppered with red-roofed buildings encircled by an old stone wall. There is a well-preserved medieval town center and a Romanesque parish church, as well as Petersburg Castle, home to the Friesach City Museum, which features exhibits on the town's history and culture. Friesach has many medieval marvels; be sure to stop in at the tourist office for information on all of them.
