Although the eastern end has many major resorts and spectacular beaches, don't be surprised if a cow, a herd of goats, or even a deer crosses your path as you drive through the relatively flat, dry terrain. You can pick up sandwiches from a deli in the Red Hook area if you want a picnic lunch.
