3 Best Hotels in St. Martin and St. Maarten

Background Illustration for Hotels

St. Maarten/St. Martin accommodations range from modern megaresorts such as the Radisson and the Westin St. Maarten to condos and small inns. On the Dutch side many hotels cater to groups, and although that's also true to some extent on the French side, you can find a larger collection of intimate accommodations there. Off-season rates (April through the beginning of December) can be as little as half the high-season rates.

Sonesta Ocean Point

$$$$ | 14 A Rhine Rd., Maho Reef, St. Maarten Fodor's Choice

Top-tier suites at this sophisticated, luxurious, adults-only enclave include butler service, but all are among the island's very best accommodations. Restaurants, bars, and other amenities are exclusively for guests, who also have access to offerings at the Sonesta Maho Beach Resort. One swimming pool snakes around the front of the property giving first-floor guests swim-out access from their suites, a second features an infinity edge and an artificial beach, a third has bar service, and a fourth has a swim-up bar. This property is a terrific (albeit somewhat noisy) vantage point for watching the planes at the nearby airport.

Pros

  • Great design
  • Guest-only amenities
  • Four lovely pools

Cons

  • Access is via busy Sonesta Maho Beach resort
  • Airport noise
  • Long walk to area restaurants and bars (though golf carts are available)
