Wellington is the home of the Royal New Zealand Ballet, known as much for contemporary works by New Zealand and international choreographers as for its perennial Nutcracker and Swan Lake performances. The NBR New Zealand Opera and the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra mix equal parts "old favorites" with contemporary works. The glass, concrete, and steel Michael Fowler Center and the adjacent, older Town Hall jointly operate as the main venue for the symphony and other classical music performances.
