Fodor's Expert Review Driving Creek Cafe
Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.
Fresh food, generous portions, and reasonable prices in a rural setting are the draw here. The café captures the essence of the communes that used to thrive on the peninsula, while providing food that appeals to the masses. It is surrounded by fruit trees with outdoor seating in a sculpture garden and on the porch. The vegetarian menu includes breakfasts (omelets, scrambled tofu, bagels, pancakes, mushrooms, and muesli). For lunch there's the Indian-style dhal; tofu burger; or 6-inch sandwich with sprouts and gherkins, cheese, tomato, and lettuce; plus piles of baked goods, locally roasted coffee, and fresh juices (e.g., liver booster) and smoothies. They also sell a small range of organic goods, local art, and pottery. There's space for the kids to play and free, fast Internet available.
