Fishing

If you want to keep the trout of a lifetime from becoming just another fish story, go with a registered guide. Prices vary, but expect to pay about NZ$100–NZ$120 per hour for a fishing guide and a 20-foot cruiser that takes up to six passengers. The minimum charter period is two hours; gear and tackle are included in the price. A one-day fishing license costs NZ$25 per person and is available on the boat. (You'll need a special license to fish in the Rotorua area and in Taupo.) For general information about local lake and river conditions, check with the Rotorua i-SITE Visitor Information Centre.
