Saffire Freycinet
FODOR’S EXPERT REVIEW
Blame it on the jaw-dropping views of Great Oyster Bay and the Hazards Mountains that frame the resort, or the modernist architecture—this far-flung luxe getaway is pure style. This luxury lodge, on Tasmania's remote Freycinet Peninsula, includes ultramodern suites and pavilions (think Eames lounge chairs, Tasmanian hardwood finishes, and black-out shades at the push of a button), a spa with treatments using sapphire and diamond dust, and a to-die-for restaurant with Tasmanian wines and some of the best food on the island. But don't worry, it's definitely not as intimidating as it looks: casual clothes are de rigueur here for most activities, like an oyster-shucking tour where you dine at a white-cloth table in the middle of the bay and spotting local wildlife by boat. Best of all, guests can choose several all-inclusive packages feature gourmet tasting menus, wine tastings, spa services, and your wine-and-goodies-stocked minibar. Rates are steep, but Saffire can't be beat for romance, natural beauty, and sheer get-away-from-it-all decadence.
