From Hobart, the Tasman Highway travels cross-country to Orford, then passes through beautiful coastal scenery with spectacular white-sand beaches, usually completely deserted, before reaching Swansea. Bicheno, just north of Freycinet National Park, and the Bay of Fires, which is farther north, are both fishing and holiday towns with quiet, sheltered harbors. The area has arguably the best beaches in the world. It also is home to stunning Freycinet National Park that covers 24,700 acres.
