Huong Giang Hotel

$$$$ | 51 Le Loi St., Hue, Vietnam

Although not the swankiest, this huge riverside property offers all the benefits of resort facilities, a central location, and pool, all at low prices, while the helpful staff make this one of the most pleasant places to stay in Hue. The large rooms come decorated in traditional Vietnamese style, with rattan furniture. Ask for one of the renovated older rooms—they're better than the newer, more hastily built ones surrounding the pool.

Pros

  • Exceptional travel office
  • City-centered

Cons

  • Popular with tour groups
  • Small and old swimming pool

Hyatt Regency Danang Resort & Spa

$$$$ | 5 Truong Sa St., Danang, Vietnam

Right in the middle of the coastal strip between Hoi An and Danang, the fabulous Hyatt Regency is the perfect beach compromise for those that can't decide between the two cities (both are within a 25-minute drive). This modern resort is a maze of similar-looking structures stretched along miles of white sandy coast and well manicured gardens. Rooms have lots of wood, a comfortable lounging area, and minimal styling, and the bathrooms are of the glass and optional blind variety, so not very private. As with any Hyatt property, the list of facilities and activities is vast. Standouts are the enormous pool and kids' program, although the kids' club comes at an extra cost if you leave your little ones there for extended periods.

Pros

  • Beautiful beach
  • On-site bakery
  • Complimentary shuttles to Danang, Hoi An, Marble Mountains, and nearby golf courses

Cons

  • Expensive
  • Club upgrade downgrades your breakfast
  • Impersonal

Lang Co Beach Resort

$$ | 463 Lac Long Quan St., Lang Co, Vietnam

This has the feel of a state-owned hotel, though the facilities and beach location are first-rate. Rooms are basic but have whirlpool tubs, comfortable beds, and most have fantastic ocean views. The staff are charming, but on weekends and holidays it can be crowded and noisy with domestic tourists. The positive aspect is that during weekdays you'll have the whole beach to yourself. The restaurant can be a bit hit or miss, but just a stone's throw from the resort lie some of the best seafood restaurants on the Lang Co coastal stretch; their specialty is oysters char-grilled by the dozen.

Pros

  • Beach
  • Huge discounted rates for weekday stays
  • Large villas

Cons

  • Can be crowded on weekends and holidays
  • Can be noisy
  • Thin walls
