Getting Here and Around

The easiest way to approach Hirosaki is to take a local train from Aomori (38–48 minutes, depending on the time; ¥670). Express trains are slightly faster (33 minutes, ¥1,500). From Morioka, the fastest and cheapest way is to take the JR express highway bus (2 hours, 15 minutes; ¥5,400 round-trip, ¥3,000 one-way). If you're interested in cycling around town, you can rent a bicycle for the day (¥500 or ¥1,000 for an electric-assisted bike) from April through November at the Hirosaki Visitor Information Center, at Neputa Mura, and three other locations around the city. Ask at the information center, but be ready to return your bicycle by 5 pm. Alternatively, there is a ¥100 bus that loops around the main area of the city.
