Unlike the Born Free sanctuaries at Shamwari where the big cats you see are destined never to return to the wild, the animals being nurtured back to health at this center that opened at the end of 2019 will have a brighter future. Animals found in the large enclosures here have been injured or orphaned and are being prepared for a return to the wild. Some, like meerkats, might have been born in captivity and yet will ultimately be able to fend for themselves and find a home on the reserve. The center's reception room features incredibly detailed information panels about a variety of ongoing conservation struggles and there are plenty of reminders of the epidemic of species extinction that is a direct result of human activity. As with visits to the Born Free centers, you can ask to tour the rehab center during one of your game drives.
