First Thursdays Cape Town
On the first Thursday of every month, art galleries in Cape Town's center stay open until 9 pm or later. With them, some retail shops (mostly design-oriented) extend their hours, and often other cultural events and openings are held in the area's hotels (The Taj) and restaurants. The main axes are Bree and Church streets. It is one of the few times the city feels truly pedestrian-friendly after dark, and you can expect a crowd. In summer, food trucks gather in parking lots to add to the festivity. Don't even think about driving—parking will be impossible and you will want to save your strolling for the gallery-crawl.
