Simon's Town Guest House

$$ | 20 Bennett Close, Simon's Town, 7975, South Africa

This clean and contemporary African-themed guesthouse in a residential area about 3 km (2 miles) outside of Simon's Town offers spacious rooms with magnificent views over False Bay. All five spacious rooms have their own sitting areas with unobstructed views of the ocean and the surrounding mountain. At these prices, perks like extra-long beds, great linens, air-conditioning in all rooms, cookies, and free Wi-Fi are much appreciated. The stunning views are courtesy of a residential location perched on a steep hill, however, and you'll need a car to do any exploring, not to mention to get meals beyond breakfast. That said, an elevator makes the guesthouse fully wheelchair accessible, and the attentive owner-managed service is great.

Pros

  • Delicious full English and Continental breakfast
  • Amazing views
  • Friendly staff

Cons

  • Not actually in Simon's Town
  • Breakfast ends at 9:30
  • Very steep hill

The Last Word Long Beach

$$$$ | 1 Kirsten Ave., Kommetjie, 7975, South Africa Fodor's Choice

All the spacious rooms at this elegant beach-themed boutique hotel—decor is clean and minimalist in shades of white, sand, and pale blue—have balconies with superb sea views making the most of the fact that you are literally on the beach. The cozy public areas are also very comfortable and enjoy the same gorgeous sea views, and the excellent staff make a point of introducing themselves and other guests (never more than 12). When you're not basking on the sundeck (good for whale-watching during the season, and surfer-watching whenever there are waves), you can explore lovely Kommetjie Beach—over a mile of white sand and wild seas—just out your door. Some nice touches include beach baskets at the ready, complimentary minibars and snacks, and a romantic turndown service with candles and petals.

Pros

  • Fabulous location right on Kommetjie's Long Beach
  • The only stellar hotel on this side of the peninsula
  • Friendly staff make you feel like they are there to serve only you

Cons

  • A good 45-minute drive to Cape Town
  • Very limited dinner options in immediate vicinity
  • Wi-Fi can be slow
