Fodor's Expert Review Sharon

5 Ramat Yam, Herzliya See on Map

The northernmost hotel on the Tel Aviv-Herzliya seafront is a little far from the neighborhood's shopping and dining options. Rooms here are cozy and decorated in earth tones, and several face the garden near the outdoor seawater pool. The hotel caters to a wide variety of guests, including tour groups. An activities club for kids runs during the summer months.

For families traveling with kids, this hotel offers a number of nice amenities: A designated children's outdoor play space, a kid's club that runs on holidays and weekends, a kiddie pool, and babysitting service (for a fee).

Bigger than the Tel Aviv average with comfortable beds and modern decor, the several categories of rooms are roomy and well-appointed. Many boast beautiful seafront views.

YOU SHOULD KNOW Family rooms are a great and affordable option for parents traveling with a child and craving a bit of extra space.

Clean, bright and modern, the bathrooms are nicer in the rooms that have been recently renovated, but spacious and comfortable regardless.

With pinstriped chairs and a grand piano, the lobby is handsome and welcoming.

Guests can walk from the lobby level directly out onto the beach, so if your room isn't ready at check-in, just leave your suitcase with reception and head straight to the sand.

The Sharon offers two pools -- a saltwater outdoor pool that is open in the hot months, and a heated indoor pool that is open year-round.

The Sarana spa offers a full range of cosmetic and therapeutic treatments.

You have to be at least 16 years old to access the spa, so if you're craving some quiet time away from the kids (your kids or anyone else's!), the spa will deliver.

The gym offers all the standard aerobic equipment, and it also boasts a beautiful sea view.

Taverna restaurant serves international cuisine for lunch and dinner, and is the site of a rich breakfast buffet.

The lounge bar serves wine, beer and simple cocktails.

In the summer months, there's sometimes live entertainment here -- ask at check-in for a schedule.

Getting Around

This isn't a particularly walkable area, but with the beach just a few steps away and taxis easily available, you won't feel trapped, regardless of where you want to go.

For great steaks and grill and a beautiful view of the marina, head to Bistro 56 (5-minute drive); for a showstopper in Tel Aviv, book one of the coveted seats at OCD (30-minute drive) -- where theatrics and five-star dining merge into a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Bellboy (30-minute drive), a cozy, prohibition-era-inspired spot serves up perfectly mixed cocktails with a fun Speakeasy vibe; while Double Standard (20-minute drive) is a little bit closer and offers incredible cocktails handcrafted with care.

Sometimes you want the best of both worlds: To be removed from the big city but still super close; to have an indoor swimming pool and also an outdoor one; to have the comfort of a vacation resort but all the amenities of a business hotel. The Sharon ticks all those boxes.
