London’s Corinthia designed its rooms with sleeping in mind: All have blackout curtains, a choice of pillows of varying firmness, beds furnished by the “royally appointed bed maker,” Hypnos, and sound-proofing to keep any noise from central London at bay. The hotel’s devotion to a good night’s rest has gone one step further, and the Corinthia has formed a relationship with sleep physiologist Dr. Guy Meadows, who is participating in a series of pro-sleep offerings at the property next month. The event will feature consultations with guests and tryptophan-rich pumpkin-seed cookies and valerian tea as a room service nightcap.
Berlin’s Swisshotel is just off the Kurfurstendamm, one of the city’s busiest streets, but it has created a unique variety of offerings to encourage guests to relax and wind down in its bustling location. WestHouse has partnered with Sleep Studio, a SoHo boutique, to curate suites that promote a good night’s rest. In these rooms, guests are offered a menu of pro-sleep amenities: sleep masks and aromatherapy candles, scented face mists from Red Flower, lavender pillow sprays, and a scented essential oil roll-on for pulse points. There are also special mattresses that adjust to support each guest and accommodate his or sleeping style.
JW Marriott, select properties
The JW Marriott’s Nightly Refresh Program is, essentially, an evening turndown service most guests could only dream about. Included is an essential-oil blend, specially created by England’s Aromatherapy Associates, and the Dream Bar, a pro-serotonin bedtime snack loaded with chia seeds and coconut, created by nutritionist Keri Glassman. The package, offered at a large handful of JW Marriott properties, including Los Angeles, Miami, Orlando, Cancun, and Seoul, certainly beats a perfunctory chocolate on the pillow.
The Benjamin, New York
The Benjamin is fully committed to helping its guests catch some Z’s, furnishing a designated sleep concierge who guides each guest through pro-slumber techniques the same way a traditional concierge gives walking directions to the nearest museum. The hotel has also worked with sleep expert Rebecca Robbins, author of Sleep for Success!, to create other restful offerings, such as bedtime snacks and what they’ve dubbed a “work-down call”—the opposite of a wake-up call, reminding guests to begin to wind down for a peaceful night in bed.
