Montreal has become a major center of street art, so much that entire districts swap out their murals annually. I was surprised to see the number of murals that featured historical themes, such as the one above. More art later, including some more murals.

Famed local author Mordecai Richler has a public library branch named after him. Its stained glass décor is of a high quality. His ex-rock critic son Daniel is currently assisting Canuck rockstar Geddy Lee to complete his memoirs.

Just as Italy spells 'soccer' and Dallas spells 'football', the province of Quebec is synonymous with ice hockey. The Montreal team (les Habs) has a long line of all-star goalies.

We'd severely underestimated the actual National park named Mont Tremblant. Silly us--it was very interesting indeed. More on this wonderland later.

Brother and sister frolic around downtown's Dorchester Square. Mrs Z used to work at that spot back in the 70s, when she was a whizz kid pioneer for that new thing called 'the computer'.

Locals debate which Farmers market is better: Jean Talon or Atwater? We loved then booth and they served our self-catering needs just fine. More about these two later.

Montreal movies: The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz; Barney's Version; The Kings of Coke (a doc about Montreal's recent status as the undisputed center of bank robberies) *see also the new doc about infamous hitman Gallant.

We only ate out a few times, and those locales were very carefully researched. Shown here=Beautys. This genuine diner once hosted Anthony Bourdain (see YouTube). We enjoyed the black Russian bread with their peerless liver salad. Ah mon dieu! I won't mention by name which rockstar was once a dick there with his egotistical misbehaviour, but John Mayer left a very bad impression.
Above: owner Larry Skolnick who finally took over from his aged father. Beautys was named for Larry's mom Freda.

No overview of Montreal would be complete without mention of singer-songwriter Leonard Cohen, my late dad's fave artist. Below you will find a pair of videos showing other singers doing covers of his classic songs.

Montreal has so much excellent street art that there is an official display district wherein work gets changed annually. Le Plateau neighbourhood is a good place to search out such murals. I was surprised to see historical imagery in a number of pieces.

Just as soccer is to Italy, and football is to Dallas, Quebec ice hockey heroes have a high status. Montreal's team (Les Habs to locals) is famous for its ongoing line-up of superb goalies.

''Un Amour des Thes' is Richard Wallace's sympa maison de the located in the Outremont district. The shop sells all kinds of delicious tea plus lovely mugs. The Avenue Bernard address means that one may sit in the middle of the street during warmer months, when city authorities open up Bernard and other streets for similar closed-to-traffic dining.

The actual National Park named Mt. Tremblant was much more interesting than we'd expected. More later about this natural attraction.

Quebec province is a fantastic place to eat. Many find the traditional sugar pie to be too sweet. Shown above: the famed local 'Oka' cheese.

The Beatles wrote 'Michelle' and Styx wrote "Mademoiselle'. Montreal has also inspired lovestruck songwriters. Just ask Burt Bacharach, Gino Vanelli, Celine Dion (she owns historic smoked meat deli 'Schwartz's) or April Wine.

My Aunt Mary and my mother in Moscow. Note the guidebook. They were forcing smiles, right after a dishonest taxi driver had deliberately raced off with my uncle's expensive camera still in the back seat.
