This photo of a smaller spadara boat was taken directly off of our rental patio. These small motorboats became the norm for spada fishermen here during the 1960s. Their ancient Greek counterparts here when this was Magna Grecia, were called 'luntras'.

As promised, here is our spada/swordfish section. Scilla is synonymous with the ancient tradition of swordfish hunting. Above is a stylized mural depicting I suppose, the symbiotic relationship between humans and spada. They transit through the very strait in front of our rental each spring (the fish not the sailors).

We used these containers for vino plus some local bevi Calabrese: Gramotto by Motta (pomegranate mixed with citrus). Edule custard apple drink was another. Self-caterers like us found everything that they needed up at Effesette supermarket in the main part of town. We needed APE calesino/tuktuk rides there and back..

Just behind this corner was the villa's spiraling metal staircase. It took you up to a level roadway into town that was closed due to nearby street renos. On the other side of town known as S. Giorgio, visitors took the elevator by Bar Zanzibar. That lift helped reduce the amount of taxing 'long-way-around' walks and connected folks with the aforementioned Marina Grande aka Spiaggi delle Sirene (mermaid/siren beach).

Our rental was Casa Galee (galley) aka Villa Alpido. It was a unique family cottage seen only in the far distance above, where buildings mark the margin. Owner Pierluigi arranged for his sister Alesandra and her elderly pal Paulo to meet us upon arrival. The waterside location was at the far eastern edge of Chianalea, so noise was not a concern. Far niente. Only lapping waves. And a million silver stars.

We stayed 8 nights. You will enjoy a stay here. Unfortunately, we did our first-ever damage to a vacation rental. First, I accidentally wrecked the coffee-maker, then Mrs Z also pulled down the shower's soap-holder by pure accident. We of course notified owner Pierluigi over the phone, then paid for both. Our bad. Sorry Pierluigi. we are not normally that clumsy.
We stayed 8 nights. You will enjoy a stay here. Unfortunately, we did our first-ever damage to a vacation rental.
