Shows how the tomb was structured inside. The tomb was encased by stones and sealed, then covered with concrete, then grass.

And last but not least, we were treated to this fabulous sight, Woljeonggyo, a covered wooden bridge with striking red columns, green roof beams and two end towers. It is thought to be the prettiest bridge in all of South Korea – even more so at night when it's illuminated with lights.

She insisted we visit this park now that it was dark. In the background is Cheomseongdae Observatory which is thought to have been built during the reign of Queen Seondeok (r. 632-647) of the Silla Dynasty for observation of the movements of heavenly bodies. It is the oldest astronomical observatory in Asia and is widely regarded as a precious cultural heritage that gives us a clear idea of the level of technological development of that time.

Daereungwon Ancient Tomb Complex. There were 23 large tombs were built in the early Silla period around 400-500CE for Kings, Queens, and nobles, similar to the Valley of the Kings and Queens in Egypt. Can only go inside one which we did. The Korean royalty was also buried with large amounts of fabulous stuff for use in the afterlife, much of which was robbed. The surviving relics are in the National Museum close by which we also toured (our guide has been a docent there for 10 years).
