Uh, I can’t remember which one I liked best….
Actually, there was a whiskey infused beer and a cherry beer in that flight, which were really, really good.

After a pizza dinner, during which I had to sample yet another beer, we made our way to the storied place, which has been serving beer for centuries in its cellar.

The beer is also made by the same monks and is exceedingly rare. But they had a bottle of it so I decided to try it out for €15. Excellent!

Supposedly the best place in Bruges, and they were good, but nothing exceptional about the waffles themselves. I think Belgium waffles is all about the toppings.

OK, for all the chocoholics out there, here you go! I researched the best places in Bruges and, surprisingly, there was some consensus. Evidently, some of the so-called Belgian chocolate isn’t made there. This place was our favorite: Dumon

Sooooo good. Yes, we brought back some Belgian chocolate and if you guys finally agreed to come to St. Louis for a GTG, there would be plenty for everyone to sample. But since I know that will never happen, we will just have to enjoy ourselves…

After dropping our bags off at the Hotel Castillion around 1:00 PM, we hit the city center streets and were greeted with this scene… Could not believe the mobs. We were able to find some solitude walking outside the city center.

Inside the church stands the Madonna of Bruges crafted by Michelangelo in 1504. It was brought to Bruges by a wealthy Flemish businessman, but has had a most interesting history, having been stolen by the French revolutionaries in 1794 during the Napoleonic wars and then by retreating Nazis in 1944 during World War II, which was the subject of the movie The Monuments Men. Can you guess which one it is?

Entering the 'Princely Beguinage Ten Wijngaarde' with its white-coloured house fronts and tranquil convent garden was founded in 1245. This little piece of world heritage was once the home of the beguines, emancipated lay-women who nevertheless led a pious and celibate life. For centuries, the Bruges beguinage has been inhabited continuously. Today, some nuns from the Order of Saint Benedict and Order of Vincent de Paul live there, as well as single women from Bruges.
