Tacoma hotel for Univ of Puget Sound college visit

I was just looking back at my posts from one year ago when my daughter was a junior and we did the whirlwind college tour of Oregon and Washington.
Well, now we are returning to the area with some ACCEPTANCES in hand! Yippee!
She is very interested in Univ of Puget Sound so we would like to stay
in the area and get a feel for it.Where would you recommend staying and any thoughts on the school would be most appreciated. And restaurants?

Congratulations! It's a great school! Of course, my father taught there, so I'm biased. ;-)

Walk up Proctor street to the Proctor district (around 26th and Proctor) and you'll find a number of good restaurants.

There's a Silver Cloud in Old Town (a short drive from UPS). That's probably your best hotel option.

If you want a hotel, the Murano is new and looks interesting--it's the same company that manages the Max in Seattle and the DeLuxe and Lucia in Portland so it's got the hip and trendy vibe.

The Silver Cloud on the waterfront is another good choice--reliable local moderately priced chain.

If you'd like to be in the Proctor District (residential neighborhood near UPS) and you like B&Bs, I stayed at the Green Cape Cod B&B years ago and quite liked it. I don't know if it's still the same ownership though.

The Murano looks interesting, NWWanderer. Is it the old Sheraton?

And lovetotravel2, I meant to say that the Proctor district is probably the area of town your daughter would spend most of her off-campus time in if she decides on UPS - I lived in that neighborhood for years and loved it. It's an easy walk to UPS.

Thank you for your quick responses!
Is the Silver Cloud in Old Town the
same at the one at the waterfront?
It is well reviewed on Trip Advisor
but pretty pricey $169.
I did look at the Murano and it is
a renovated Sheraton - the Silver Cloud looks more like our type of place if we could figure out a better rate! Any ideas about the Courtyard by Marriott downtown? And I'll check out that b and b too! Thanks.

Yes, the Silver Cloud is on the waterfront on Ruston Way.

There were some beautiful views from what was the Sheraton, so if it's been sold and renovated, I'm sure the Murano is very nice.

The B&B NWWanderer mentioned in very close to UPS and in a very nice residential area.

The Silver Cloud is in a great spot on the waterfront, but be warned there is a nearby railroad, so take ear plugs if you are noise sensitive, or ask about a room that is less noisy.

The Murano is within walking distance of the glass museum, Tacoma Arts Museum, Washington State Historical Society Museum - more urban.

They are only a few miles apart, though, so you could stay at either one and visit the other area.

The Courtyard is quite new and quite acceptable.

The Tacoma News Tribune is effusive in its articles about the glass artwork at the Murano...worth a visit even if you don't stay there.
