Drivng DC to NYC ......looking for unique or special places to eat in NJ or along the way close to highway
We wil be driving from MD to CT and would like to find a place to eat close to the highway.
Ideal would be a casualplace (no chains) for breakfast or lunch...one that the locals love.
Thanks
As an example, I'm originally from Boston and I always reccomend Kelly's Roast Beef (sandwiches)

If you go to http://www.usastar.com/i95 you'll find more about travel on the I95 corridor than you ever thought existed. The "Restaurants" like provides exit by exit listings. Most of these, however, are fast food. The "Highway Gourmet" section would seem to be what you're looking for.

Recently on a trip via NJTP, we got off at Exit 8 (random choice - it was lunch time), and asked the toll booth operator for a suggestion.
This is the exit for Princeton, name of the town right off the turnpike was Hightstown, and we ate at Anthony's ("Anthony's Chicken & Ribs"?). It was a small luncheon/sandwich place in a little strip of stores. They seemed to specialize in roasted chickens, home made chicken pot pie, etc. Everybody in our party enjoyed what they ordered. Don't know if the locals "love it" but we were happy not to eat at a rest stop.
