A leader in its niche, winning numerous industry awards for Best River Cruise Line, this specialty 28-vessel cruise line has exceptional staterooms and itineraries that showcase not only Europe, but also Southeast Asia, Africa, Egypt, and Colombia. Its Austrian founder worked with several of the other major river-cruise companies before launching his own company in 2002. Since then, AmaWaterways has introduced 22 new ships in Europe as well as one ship in Southeast Asia, one in Africa, and two ships in Egypt. In 2024, two new ships will debut in Colombia.Read More

AmaWaterways’ luxury ships are among the newest of the European river cruisers operating today. The ships have staterooms equipped with flat-screen TVs and internet, French balconies on the top two decks, elevator, whirlpool, and free bicycles for exploration ashore. Impressive public rooms use designer fabrics, chic furniture, and subtle lighting for an upscale boutique hotel atmosphere.

They operate a wide range of itineraries in Europe on the Rhine, Main, Danube, and Mosel rivers as well as other rivers around the world. The company also offers Christmas-market cruises from late November through December. Reserve April to see tulip blossoms cruising Holland and Belgium.

Is This Line Right for You?

Choose this Line If
Don’t Choose this Line If
You enjoy a luxury adventure with few passengers. Weeklong excursions with as few as six passengers snake their way through rural European villages.
Your passions include wine, gastronomy, nature, and biking. Popular theme cruises showcase world-famous wine, food, and geographic regions with lectures and land tours.
You want good bang for your buck. Excellent itineraries with upgraded accommodations and service are not exorbitantly priced.
You want to completely unwind. Certain itineraries are activity-packed with intense touring excursions, leaving little downtime.
You don’t have a lot of time. A top itinerary takes at least 10 to 15 days. Count on longer durations considering door-to-door travel time.
You travel heavy and need storage space. While cabins have drawers and closets, maneuvering in tighter quarters of a smaller ship may cramp fashionistas’ styles.
