Your Favorite Restaurant

If you could only pick one...where would you go in DC (noy VA or MD) for a great dinner, price not an issue, but not really dressy. OK, now if it had to be Italian, what would you choose?

One of my favorites is Chef Geoff's on New Mexico Ave (near Sutton Place). Geat interior, not really dressy, terrific food. Chicken breast with curry sauce, couscous, grilled peaches - YUM. Also can't beat banana wontons for dessert.

Enjoy Cafe Milano's for Italian food.

The best moderate restaurant is Cafe Deluxe. Bistro du Coin only seems French to people who have never actually been to France. It is for poseurs from the middle of nowhere who, unfortunately, populate far to many DC establishments. And their cassoulet is like cement.

But Mark, Cafe Deluxe is where the poseurs go when they want "comfort food." It's DC as done by annoying, upperclass white people and Eurotrash.

You are actually right now that I think about it. I still do like it there though! La Chaumiere in Georgetown is a good, authentic French restaurant.

As usual,I can't pick ONE favorite! But my tops these days are Yanyu, Palena, and Equinox. And for Italian (altho not what you might expect from Italian), definitely Obelisk.

My favorite is 701 (Pennsylvania Avenue) for the food, service, and ambience. There's live jazz too. Alternatively, Bombay Club for refined Indian. For Italian, I Ricchi. BTW, I didn't like Obelisk's food.

Ten Penh is my favorite. I love the food, the service and the atmosphere.
