Yosemite N.P. camping/visit questions
Is mid June too early to go to Yosemite? While looking at recreation.gov I noticed it said some of the campgrounds won't open until mid July (Tuolumne Meadows and Crane Flat). I know they have to base their decision on snow levels but they have had a very light snow year this year. Maybe they will make the date earlier as we get closer to summer if conditions are better than expected? I don't want to go too early and not be able to see all the park
On another note, how long do we need to stay? First time visit with a little day hiking. Same question for Sequoia/King's Canyon.
Thanks!

If you want guaranteed accessibility to the back country, you need to book late June or later. Tioga pass 'should' be open in June but you can't be sure.
Four just the Valley and a few day hikes you'd want a minimum of two full days (so 3 nights) and add another day if Tuolomne Meadows is open.
For sequoia/kings canyon you'd want two full day if you want to do any hiking.

Mid-June too early? No, not at all. Tuolumne may be later, but the Valley should be beautiful. From reading your comments, I think you could go in May sometime, stay in the Valley, and find it perfect (we have).
Keep in mind that Tuolomne is not in the valley; much higher. Most first visits to Yosemite don't venture that far, and I would not worry about it for this trip. Crane Flat is a bit outside the Valley and so may open a bit later. Just look for alternatives in the Valley. Although, as you noted, it is still dreadfully lacking in moisture/snow in poor California.

I am very much interested in visiting the higher elevations around TM. I wanted to camp in the valley AND in TM (if able to get sites) so we could spend time in each area since they each have their own appeal.
My next question is, if TM services are not up and running yet but Tioga Road is open, can we still do some day hiking out of there if the trails are in good shape? I've read that the road can open up 2-4 weeks earlier than the service areas since it can take that long to get everything ready.
