Wilmington Delaware?

I grew up in Chester County, Pennsylvania which borders the tiny state of Delaware. Wilmington, although the largest city in Del., has a bit of a small town feel. The cultural life is great, with Philadelphia close by. The nearby Brandywine Valley is also lovely. You'll enjoy visiting him! As to neighborhoods, etc. I really can't help. Hopefully others will.

My only experience in Wilmington Delaware's downtown was to go to the Delaware History Museum. Nice, interactive museum of the history of the First State; I quite enjoyed learning about Delaware's role in the colonial period, Revolutionary War, Civil War up to modern times. Restaurants: My coworker recommends a restaurant named...Blue or Blue something.
The city is pretty sleepy on the whole, I find with the streets mostly deserted even on a nice weekend. People have a very suburban outlook on the whole. However, there are efforts at a downtown renaissance. For urban pleasures, Philadelphia and Baltimore are within an hour's drive, and Wilmington's train station is one of the major stops on the DC-Balto-Phila-NYC route, making any of the four accessible by day trip.
I've heard nice things about Longwood Gardens and Winterthur, which are not far away. New Castle nearby is supposedly quaint and historical. Can't speak from experience though about these.

I live here, there's alot to do, such as Winterthur & Longwood, and only about an hour to Baltimore & Lancaster. As for neighborhoods, if he's young, Trolley Square would be good, if he's older with a family, then Brandywine Hundred (in Wilmington, but not within city limits) and Hockessin. "Deep Blue" is the restaurant a previous poster was referring to. Also "821" in the city, "Backstage Cafe" at the waterfront, and sooooooo many more.
