Which national parks or other sights to see in July with young children?
Hi all, my husband and I are traveling to the Salt Lake City area in late June/early July with our 8 yo son and 5 yo daughter. Unless we can find good airfare between now and then we are driving our minivan from Ohio and should arrive in the area approx. 29 June. We will be attending a reunion in Park City 5-7 July and don't need to return to Ohio until 10 July. Any suggestions for itinerary for the days before and after our Park City visit? We are thinking of visiting Dinosaur National Monument, Zion and Bryce Canyon and not sure what else we should plan to see in Utah or surrounding states. I've seen some of the area back in 1981, but the rest of the family has not. Suggested routes would be great. Also how crowded can we expect the parks to be then? Appreciate all your help!

Summer is HOT in most of Utah. Plan on site seeing early morning and late evening and spend time at a pool or driving in an air conditioned vehichle during the heat of the day.
Dinosaur National Park is in a beautiful setting. I'm sure you son would love to see how they recover dinosaur bones.
South of there is Moab, Utah and Canyonlands and Arches National Park are beautiful parks with lots to see. There are many petroglphs on the canyon walls near the city. Just go to the visitor center in town and get information.
Capitol Reef National Park and the drive down scenic Highway 12 to Bryce is a drive you really don't want to miss.
Bryce and Zion are also very beautiful parks.
Other places in the area would be Mesa Verde in south west Colorado.
Check out this web site for more information on Utah.

Since you have to divide your touring it was hard to come up with a route.
Let me know if you have any other questions.

Just wanted to say thanks to Utahtea, and Connie for your input and ideas. Yellowstone and Colorado are definite possibilities to consider, thanks for telling me that they are within reasonable driving range of our main destination.
Thanks also to Dayle, who replied on my duplicate post, I am posting here so as not to bump up that post again. I have read some of the other threads on here too regarding the parks, etc. I've printed this page and others out for reference. I've gotten some brochures in the mail this week and we are looking forward to our trip!
