Where to stay when visiting Acadia?
I am planning a summer trip to Boston and Acadia for our family. The plan is to spend several days in Acadia hiking, biking and exploring. We are a family of five with three tween age boys. Any suggestions for lodging in Bar Harbor or other areas easily accessible to Acadia?
Thanks

Hi taitai,
You might get more specific recommendations if you let us know your maximum nightly budget (example: no more than $250 per night or whatever).
We always stay at the Bar Harbor Inn which does have some room configurations with multiple bedrooms suitable for a family. It is not cheap and might be higher than you wish to spend.

I really don't have a budget which I recognize isn't helpful. We will pay more if we feel we are getting value.
I am intrigued by the idea of a little cottage. The idea of a kitchenette could be useful for breakfasts and easy dinners. I do not want to stuff all 5 of us in the same room. The nicer cottages, via VRBO, won't work for us as we will only be staying for three nights and not a week. I will look at the Bar Harbor and Highbrook. I saw some little cottages...Bar Harbor Cottages, Eden Village, Emery....they seem really rustic but could work for a couple days.
I appreciate any and all suggestions.
Thank you

No one would recommend all of you stuffed into one room. That would be mighty uncomfortable. The facilities I were referring to at the Bar Harbor Inn are the Loft Suites with muliple bedrooms and 2 baths.
I definately think a cottage with a kitchen area might be ideal. Sorry I have no recommends in this area!

Check out acadiamagic.com. It lists accommodations of all types, including apts & cottages. We stayed in a cottage in Bernard (on the quiet side of Acadia)from BoathouseWay Cottages http://boathousewaycottages.com/ very clean, if outside of BarHarbor. For hotels, we've stayed at the BH Regency several times, it has a wonderful location and view, and a nice pool.
We can't afford the BH Inn, but we do eat on their terrace every year, and they serve wonderful meals outside with a fab view of the harbor, boats and islands.

If you choose a cottage, make sure it is near the ocean. Emery cottages are, Eden Village is not. Sometimes the websites are a little deceiving so check reviews.
Bayside Hotel is nice, and they have some Condo units that would accommodate 5.
