Suggest you telephone 1-800-288-7336 and ask the Sedona Chamber of Commerce to mail you their free booklet, "Experience Sedona." Gives you tons of information about things to do, things to see, places to stay, and great places to eat. And you can't beat the price -- 'cause there isn't any.

For Sedona....you can shop at Talaquapaque (sp?) or shop the stores on the main street...or take a pink jeep tour through the hills...but really, you just look at the scenery. It is the best I've ever seen on this planet. The red rocks are amazing.
For Snottsdale, I suggest keep going south to Tucson.

We were fortunate enough to stay at the Enchantment Resort in Sedona. It's in a valley of red rocks and well off the beaten path. They have a lot of activities, a spa, and an incredible restaurant. You can get your own balcony with a grill if you choose to cook at "home". It's great to sit on the patio at night and watch the shooting stars in the black sky. It was really amazing. The main strip in Sedona is real touristy with kitchy little shops and Native American art, so I wouldn't plan on spending too much time there. We went to a Mexican restaurant in that "Talawhatever" place that's mentioned in another post, but weren't really impressed.
This is important... if you're planning on driving try to get sidetracked and go to Jerome and/or Prescott (maybe instead of Scottsdale - I'm not sure there's a whole lot to see there), both are great little towns in the middle of "nowhere". Enjoy your trip and bring lots of water with you wherever you go.

Just returned from a business meeting in Scottsdale where we stayed at the Phoenician. Expensive but if it fits your budget, so very pleasant, nice staff, beautiful grounds. Went to Taliesin West (F.L. Wright's home and school) and was disappointed. We found a wonderful old family restaurant just out of Scottsdale which is famous for it's sticky buns (any concierge would know the name) and had wonderful huevos rancheros. Also enjoyed the galleries and silver jewelry in Old Scottsdale and the Pink Pony Bar. I agree it's not a lot, but a 1-2 day stay would be nice. Sedona is a whole other world--we're going back next year and will spend several days in Sedona and just go to Scottsdale for our meeting. I wouldln't bother with Tuscon, but many people like it.
