The system that's about to hit us left golfball sized hail in Stillwater...talk about, well, there's a joke in there somewhere.
Honest question: where do the little birds go during a storm? I've been watching the same dozen or so birds at my feeders the past few weeks and I'm worried what a golf ball sized chunk of ice might do to a little goldfinch.

Trish, now that you mention it, I don't really mind laundry all that much either. It's the drive back and forth to do it since we don't have any facilities at our company housing. The two mile drive isn't even bad, but it's the herds of goats and donkeys we get stuck behind when we are in a hurry to get our clothes out of the dryer before they wrinkle!
I always do laundry for my sister and BIL when I stay at their house and don't mind a bit. Now that I think about it, that must be why he always has that chilled bottle of wine for me, and the comfy fresh towels on my bed. And, here I thought all this time that he just loves me.
Indy, it's so nice to see you tonight! Yes, I agree...it's always a treat to talk to friends the old fashioned way. Unfortunately it costs me more than I care to mention, but I do get around to it once in awhile. If only I could get away from talking to sis just about every night, then maybe I could actually call someone else.
Thanks for the link dcespedes...I'll have to check it out.
seetheworld, sorry I can't help on the flat iron question. I am a curly haired girl by nature and don't have the patience for a flat iron, although I've tried numerous times.
Jocelyn, stay safe in the wake of the storms!

Scarlett, we had them over to our place for cocktails until things died down I worry about the animals, too, as we get the occassional hail storms, especially in the spring, but everything seems to make it through just fine...better than the roofs! Is it roofs or rooves? It's hoofs and hooves... :-?

Now if it would only quit raining here long enough for me to take my dogs out so I can go to bed! My cistern is happy, however, as is my checkbook with not having to buy a load of water any time soon.

Thanks, Mimi. Kisses back at your poochie, too.
Finally bit the bullet...took the dogs out in the rain since it doesn't seem it'll let up any time soon. We all got soaked and now we're towel dried. I'll finish off my poison while I keep my pooch from pawing at his stitches now that they've gotten damp. After he's content I'm off to dream land.
Have a great weekend everyone!

As always, my Friday night poison is red wine (Fortissimo). Good for my cholesterol, you know! Unfortunately, in terms of the abundant clutter in my house, I find it hard to part with any travel momentos I run across, including receipts! Just can't bear to get rid of those happy memories!

Poison: Hawaiian Punch with a splash of Limon Bacardi. You use what you have.
Digging thru the closet I found and intact "Cow Paddy" I had purchased for my FIL in Vermont in 2001. This is a dark chocolate paddy about 4" across with almonds in it. Of course its no longer edible. I probably decided it might be insulting instead of funny. Plus he is a diabetic.

Poison: decaf iced tea right now.
I love tacky souveniers, and cannot resist buying the most obnoxious-looking magnet at every place I go.
Also among my faves: a toe ring bought in Maui, a coconut carved into a monkey head from Florida, and a pine cone from a...shall we say "romantic"...time spent in the woods in Utah.

Drinking water since I have to drive in a little while.
Scarlett, what is Lillet?
We're leaving for California tomorrow, and as I was cleaning out my purse, I found my Air New Zealand ticket jacket from last year's trip. I smiled fondly and left it there.

I've switched to Pinot Grigio tonight while perusing a wonderful collectors edition of Bon Appetite magazine.
It features Rome, Florence and Venice and is a real gem to hang on to. I'm going to take it to Venice with us in the fall in order to visit the Rialto market and do some in home cooking.
I suppose the collectors edition magazine will perhaps become another momento?

Joe, Laphroaig is my favorite single malt. But tonight it will be sake, as we are treating ourselves to din and a movie after a hard day of moving stuff around.
Mementos: stones from Italy and Greece, postcards of art I loved, brochures from exquisite inns in Japan with all the writing in Japanese so I can't read them at all.
(By the way, note the correct spelling. The root is the same as memory, not moment.)

For some reason, I keep the Wizards-Celtics ticket stub from three years ago in my raincoat pocket. I discovered it a season later, and for some reason I don't throw it out. The game was terrible - we're from Phila. and took a long weekend trip to Boston which included this game. I do not like the Celtics (76ers fans here) and the game was so incredibly boring we left early. We got the seats hoping to see Michael Jordon play, but he did not play due to a knee injury. I do love the city of Boston; perhaps that's why I just don't toss it.
I do keep most of my 76ers tickets and use them as bookmarks. We go to several games each season, but every once in a while I'll remember a detail about a certain game when I see the stub.

I think I have introduced several fodorites to lillet, a favorite drink of mine.
Lillet is a French aperitif wine produced in Bordeaux, and comes in either red or white (although the white version is the more common). It is fortified with Armagnac, herbs, fruit, and Bordeaux wine.
