Hey that is cool. :-P I buried the needle on "Inland North."

LvSun Dec 4th, 2006 03:56 PM

Awesome. I came out Midland and that is where I grew up. However now I live a little further south. People here tell me I have a Northern accent and people at home tell me I have a Southern accent. Guess my accent has mutated into my very own brand.

Vittrad Dec 4th, 2006 06:47 PM

My came out Philly which I find odd as I grew up in Chicago. Now I have been occasionally accused of taking on a bit of the eastern intonations of some of my relatives, but I know nobody from Philly and have never been there.

karameli Dec 4th, 2006 07:14 PM

Wow -- it pegged me as Philly even without any questions about the letter "o"! (home, phone, go...agh.)

hawaiiantraveler Dec 4th, 2006 07:20 PM

ok....all of us hawaiians must be from boston.

Aloha!

Midland accent- Native Californian.
I'm sending this to all the other Californians I know and see what happens with them.

LoveItaly Dec 4th, 2006 09:07 PM

Budman..you were born in Vallejo?? Vallejo General Hospital on Tennessee St., or Kaiser? Was your father in the US Navy and stationed at Mare Island Naval Shipyard by any chance? Vallejo, who knew! Perhaps that explains the grapes and your wine that is produced in Lodi.

Hi L84SKY, born and raised and have lived all of my life in N CA. I received the "Midland" accent also..well actually that indicated "no accent". I noticed that they had a "west" accent. If we here in CA are not in the "west" what are they referring to?

Fun thread LLL!!

I was raised in the D.C. area where, like me, most speak with no accent. I moved to the South, and now I say Y'all. I also scream, "Go Baby," during football games. I picked that up here, but don't know if it's southern. I have to admit I like saying Y'all and Go Baby.

"North Central" is what professional linguists call the Minnesota accent..

LOL, a Southern girl from NYC !

L84SKY Dec 4th, 2006 10:34 PM

"If we here in CA are not in the "west" what are they referring to?"

I wondered that myself LoveItaly. Maybe "west" means a John Wayne type of accent.
Round 'um up

Inland North. What a relief, I was mostly raised in NJ! I am originally from Michigan. My family there always say they love my accent when I visit. I dunno, I guess I have some of this and some of that.

Grcxx3 Dec 5th, 2006 03:42 AM

My result was "midland" - funny because I was born in Mississippi and primarily raised in New Orleans! But I spent the ages between 1 and 11 living all over the US! Guess I just never picked up the N'Awlins accent that my grandmother had!

Budman Dec 5th, 2006 03:58 AM

LoveItaly, birth certificate reads Vallejo. I was actually born at the Naval Hospital at Mare Island. I was back there for a visit in 1989, and the hospital was closed and converted into the HQ for the Navy Combat Weapons Systems Training Center. We also lived in Lodi with my Grandfather for a year when I was 3 while Dad was deployed. I'm still making wine with Lodi grapes. :-) ((b))

Statia Dec 5th, 2006 04:46 AM

Mine came up with "Midland, you don't have an accent." Hmmm...strange considering I am a native Texan. However, I've often been told that I have lost my Texas accent with being in the islands all these years, yet it's still very easy to start "aint'in' and y'all'in" when I get around other Texans. :)

iceeu2 Dec 5th, 2006 04:50 AM

Yepper, it got me....said it's a Southern accent that I have. And, I'm certain that's the truth.

Statia Dec 5th, 2006 04:53 AM

BTW - P_M, I loved your answer. :D

Jed Dec 5th, 2006 04:54 AM

I was pegged for Philly, where I have lived for 35 years. Born in NJ.((*))

starrsville Dec 5th, 2006 05:59 AM

Love it. Right on target!

BayouGal Dec 5th, 2006 06:20 AM

My accent is overwhelmingly southern . . . well, I swanee! ;-)

Vittrad Dec 5th, 2006 07:44 AM

Interesting that this quiz is so on target for some people and others are scratching their head as to the results.
