Weekend getaway
Suggestion for a November weekend anniversary getaway? We're looking for something "cozy" - small town, good dining and shopping. Have already been to Manchester, VT (loved it!), but would like to keep the driving manageable (3-4 hours max).

The Berkshires is a great get-away place any time of year And not too far to drive to from NJ. Lots of great places to eat, plays and music. In the summer there is music at Tanglewood. There are also museums- Chesterwood my favorite. My boyfriend and I went up and rented the little cottage at Chesterwood where Daniel Chester French, the scuptor once had a studio. It was pricy, but this romantic little cottage in the woods- very artistic..We were so inpsired we decided to get married there and did! You can't go wrong with the area- check out Stockbridge, Lee, and Lennox all right next to each other. Red Lion is a good place to stay in Stockbridge..Lots of good B&B's.good luck..ellie

Stockbridge is an excellent choice. The Norman Rockwell Museum is a small world class place to visit. Also, nearby Great Barrington has neat restaurants, being a college town.
If within your driving range from NJ, you might consider Ithaca, NY, home of Cornell University. The University is a terrific sight itself, with a museum and more besides. Again, great restaurants because it is a college town. Its in a beautiful setting in the Finger Lakes region but may be slightly more small city-like than you want.

Have you considered New Hope, PA in Bucks County? There are quite a number of romantic inns and bed and breakfasts there.
