Vegemite

As a devoted Vegemite addict from Australia, I am wondering if it is readily available all over the US? Or do I bring my own (7 weeks worth)supply?
Thanx, Leonie

Unfortunately, I think you will have to bring your own. You might be able to find it at some sort of specialty grocer in the States, but better safe than sorry.

For what it's worth, we do have some wonderful regional breads to spread it on!

Agreed. You'll probably be able to find it in the more metropolitan cities but it'll be much more expensive once you do locate it. Given that you love it, play it safe and bring your own. Bring some extra and share with your US friends.

I know it's not the same thing, but I am a Marmite fan.

Bring it with you. Having lived in major cities I never once encountered vegemite, and never even knew about it until some Australian friends clued me in.

Leonie, if you're coming to New York City you can get it here. There are some specialty groceries which carry foods like Vegemite. If you'll be in NYC please advise and I'll post the stores.

My mother is from Australia and she can sometimes find it at British specialty food stores. Cost Plus Market might have some. I've also seen it on the internet.

It's so nasty, my mother would eat it on toast in the morning and all of us kids would scream!

Thanx everyone for your advice. Yes, Noway, not only is Vegemite an acquired taste but an Aussie icon on which most Australian kids are reared. Elfie, yes we will be in NY for a week (staying on Central Park South), so any shops in the vicinity would be great. I still might bring one jar with me.....just in case!!
Thanx again, Leonie
