Vegasitis
Despite the minor b-( glitch in our recent trip, I have what can only be described as "Vegasitis".
I never would have thought I'd be itching to go back so soon, especially since our main reason for going in the first place was to see the Canyons and Parks,
but I really really enjoyed that trip! I would say it was the most relaxing and fun trip we've ever been on.
I'm looking at maybe a new year's visit, but oh! the hotel prices are high high high at that time!
I want to see la Reve and Mystere and Ka and Danny Gans and I could go on and on and on.....
I'll bet we could take a Vegas Vacation every year for the next 10 years and still not see all the good stuff!

yes hunterblu, I agree...
while I'm not all that much into gambling, I love walking all day and having one fabulous meal each night as my reward.. also, hiking in the desert, shopping, people watching, and bonding with girlfriends who I only see once or twice a year.. how many places can you just let your hair down and not care who sees you?
Oh gads, that's the other main reason, my hair always looks wonderful and I love to get a blowout as soon as I arrive.
Go ahead and laugh, you people have no idea of the trauma I grew up with having natural curls back in the day before personal dryers, irons, smoothing cream, whatever.. yes, for me, Vegas is all about good hair baby!!! J.

hunterblu, I understand you 100%. Luckily I live close enough to get up to Vegas about 4 times a year !! I just love the large hotels, shows, places to eat anytime of the day or night, the glitz and tackiness of it all
, etc. The totally over the top feeling to Vegas is fun. I usually meet some friends there for "girls weekends" as well as going with my husband and it is always a blast.
Despite the over the top feeling to the Strip there are very normal neighborhoods in Vegas and it is always nice if the Strip gets too hectic to get over to another part of town for a few hours (or to Red Rock, Lake Mead, Mt. Charleston, etc. etc.).
I hope you get back soon.

I love going to Vegas, and aside from the gambling, shopping, and eating/drinking, I enjoy it because it's like a huge playground for adults. I always feel like I'm being propelled into a cartoon or something, where everything is just so surreal. Just my feeling on it.

The new year's crowds are pretty crazy, i would never pay $350 a night to go then. If you're into crazy, then maybe. I've heard that they have to grease down all the telephone poles up and down the strip to keep the nuts from climbing them.

I have been going multiple times a year for a while and I still haven't seen everything. These days I'm just catching up with what has opened since my previous trip.
When I only went a few times a year, I would start planning the next trip the instant I got back. This year I will have taken about 10 trips - some business, most pleasure.
While I do enjoy the gambling for a while, it is the dining, entertainment and club/lounge scene that keeps me coming back.
If you get tired of the fast pace of the Strip casinos, you can head to one of the locals casinos. The Red Rock Resort is really nice and relaxed. If it were not so far off-Strip (and generally pricey to stay at) I would stay there.
FWIW, The Pink Taco (of Hard Rock fame) opened another outlet in Phoenix.
Tracy2,
the rates fluctuate a lot and if you do gamble a bit you can even get rooms comped for New Years. I have an Augustus Tower Suite at Caesars comped for 4 nights including New Years.
In April, I was seeing rates of a little over $100 a night for New Years at Bally's (these were rates anyone could get if they were planning ahead).
Take Care,
Mark

Four of us are leaving for our once yearly Las Vegas pilgrimage on Oct. 29th. Husbands go to SEMA convention/show/car crap extravaganza and us girls do whatever we want all day (a little shopping, a little eating, a few "flutters" with the slots, a little drinking, a few more slots .. you get the picture) and then meet up with husbands for fabulous dinners. Don't think we'll be going to Michael Mina's ... tee hee.
This year we are staying at Ballys ... sadly the pool closes for the season on the very day we arrive ... sheesh. However, we can use the Paris pool.
Of the five nights we are spending in L.V. I have us eating at The Commander's Palace our first night (husband and I ate there last year and it was really, really good and the service was very friendly), Rosemary's one night (anyone have any idea of the timing to get there and maybe how much the taxi might be?) and I'm thinking of trying the Mesa Grill but I'm nervous because the reviews for this restaurant seem to be all over the map. It sounds like if Bobby Flay is in the restaurant the food is great, if not, then the food and service are subpar. I guess we take our chances?
I fully realize Ruth's Chris is a chain steak house but has anyone been to the one in L.V. lately? I had my first Ruth's Chris "petit filet" in Palm Desert in May this year and I've NEVER had such a delicious piece of beef in my life.
Husband and I went to see George Wallace at The Flamingo last year and he wants to go again this year ... don't know if I can take his "howling" in my ear for and hour and a half again! He loved that man. We've seen "O", "Mystere" and Mamma Mia ... our friends are arriving 3 days before us (her husband wants to go to the NHRA drags) so they are going to see LOVE. I'll be interested to hear what they think of it.
Okay ... blabbing on here ... getting excited ... need more money ... ding, ding, ding ....

Hey Boxer,
I just got back from Ballys this week. Had an outstanding dinner at Ballys Steakhouse and my DW...who had to stay on a few more days...just had a great meal at the Paris Steakhouse last night.
Also we had a fantastic time at the Fab Four show at Aladdin, you can find 2 for 1's. It would have been a blast with a group but we loved it as a couple.

Hey Boxer...we don't have to all hate Michael Mina due to one individual's bad experience.
Just to add another point of view...My husband and I had an outstanding dinner there last month (lobster pot pie). Our friends dined there the week prior and said it may have been the best dinner they have ever had (he had the John Dory trio). And after having a superb dinner there with clients this month, my co-worker is determined to take his wife there during her 40th birthday trip.
Anyways, I have Vegasistis too. I want to go back NOW!

Boxer, I didn't see Bobby anywhere around when we went to Mesa and the food was incredible.
I go to Vegas once a year with husband and we always look forward to it. Good food, great people watching, blackjack, fun bars, nice shops, and getting out to the desert is such a treat. We can't take it for more than a few days, but they're always fun days. Our trick is to try to arrive on Sunday afternoon to get good rates on hotels and it's a bit less crowded.
