In Maryland, fly into BWI and take the shuttle to downtown where there are a number of nice places to stay in the Inner Harbor area, which is where most of the attractions are located. The National Aquarium, Science Center, and the Orioles ballpark (Camden Yards) are just a few of the interesting places to visit. There are also a number of excellent restaurants in the area. There is a water taxi that will take you to Fells Point-kind of a funky mix of bars and shops to look at. If you have the time, a side trip to Annapolis is well worth it. You can visit the Naval Academy and spend some time walking thru this quaint capital of the Free State. Please enjoy your visit to Maryland.

GG, I suggest you first do a thorough search on the DC post .... go back 6 to 9 months .... there have been literally scores and scores of messages addressing ALL of you questions pertaining to DC .... some very valuable, helpful information that you need to read. Afterward, you'll be in a better position to ask specific questions. As far as airports, there's BWI (the other posted addressed), and if you're coming to see DC first, try to land at Reagan National .... 10 minites from downtown DC. May I also suggest you purchase a good guide book for DC .... Since you do not already even know our airports, you would probably enjoy reading about us a little bit beofre you arrive. Good luck with that research.

BWI tends to be cheaper than the other two, but it's a hike to D.C.
National's the closest to the city, and you can take the metro to and from the airport. Dulles can be a pain because of traffic, and it's at least 30 minutes from the city (usually more).

It depends on where you're coming from, of course, but there are awesome fares to be had out of BWI. Like $155 RT to Phoenix, for instance. Much cheaper than Dulles or National. Definitely shop around, and consider BWI if you have enough time and energy to make the trek into DC.
