Driving California to Massachusetts

My daughter suddenly finds she needs to drive home from California (SF) to Massachusetts - probably starting tomorrow and I have a few questions I hope someone knows the answers to.

Looks like I-80 & 90 is the route to take. Anyone know if there is any really major construction or anything anywhere on that route that would make this a bad route to take. Any other suggestions.

I know there are tolls from Chicago east but a quick google search makes it look like no tolls west of Chicago. Is this correct?

Thanks

If you go to Google Maps, click on "Directions" put in your starting and ending points then click on the "car" icon. The best route will be displayed (which will probably be I-80 and I-90) and it the areas where there is constructions will be highlighted by yellow triangles.

Lots of mountains, does she have a good car? Keep an eye on the weather daily so that you can advise her, there have been a lot of odd things happening across the country...tornadoes, flooding etc.

If she uses I-80 there won't be "lots of mountains" once she clears California. What there will be is LOTS of Great Basin and the absolute flatness of Nebraska.

Check Google for construction.

There really is no better route than 80 out of California and 90 when the two split in Ohio.

Major construction bottleneck in Sacramento. She should try to be thru this before 3pm to avoid the fray.

OK, thanks. She's on her way, taking 80/90.
