Upper Keys Restaurants

I would like travelers' or locals' opinions of the best restaurants in the Upper Florida Keys, specifically for seafood, the dishes they like and the restaurants they go to. Going in May, and would like some advise.

Go to www.chowhound.com . Near the top of the Florida board, a lady's just posted eating tips for the Florida Keys.

Only thing she missed was a fish sandwich and onion rings at Mrs. Mac's Kitchen in Key Largo. But hey, you can't catch 'em all!

I second Mrs Macs in Key Largo, great for lunch. The Green Turtle Inn in Islamorada is a great place for seafood.

Sundowner's (bayside in Key Largo) is a great seafood restaurant. The price is moderately expensive (about $20 for a dinner entre) but the portions are large and very, very good.
Mrs Mac's is great, but I'm not sure it is worth the wait if you get there at prime breakfast time on a Sat. or Sunday. Certainly it is a great suggestion for a weekday breakfast or lunch.

Hey George - That was me on Chowhound, and I have you to thank for helping me with suggestions before I went! I tried posting my complete trip report here (including lodging and activities) yesterday, but it never showed. At least my food report made it on Chowhound!

Aaawww right, Amy! Sounds like you're hooked on the Keys, too. And it's hard to go hungry there...I hate to even think about it. Makes me salivate all over again!

fish house: ocean side in (I think)Tavernier.

snappers: ocean side..set back from US1 so you can't see it from the road. food is just OK, but get an outdoor, marina side table and feed the giant tarpon.

hobo house: gulf side next to amy slates dive resort....best of the 3.
