So good to have a sensable place to vent feelings. I live outside Dc and this is the scariest thing I can ever remember.

Feel so sad for all those whose loved ones are lost.

We have reservations to fly to Hawaii tomorrow via LAX. Now we may go Thursday. Any one else flying?

Canceled our trip to NYC that was supposed to fly out tomorrow. Was able to get a full refund on flight and hotel (booked through priceline.com). Not able to get a refund on Lion King for Sunday. My prayers for everyone in NYC!

It was about 3,000 Palestinians who were dancing for joy in the streets. Arafat has condemned the terrorist actions.

As to the planes being hijacked, has anyone heard if airline employees are suspected of planting the weapons?? Seems to me it would have to be an inside job because it would be impossible to get the guns through the metal detectors.

I also have heard airports will be closed for several days. Any word on that?

Just another update from the NYC area..I live about 10 miles from Manhattan in New Jersey. The large pharmaceutical company where I work(based on Route 3, about 6 miles from the Lincoln Tunnel) closed around 11 a.m. Everyone was too upset to work. My 17 year old son goes to school in Jersey City, directly across the river from the WTC and we just got word finally that he's getting a ride home from a teacher--all highways and trains/buses from that area are closed. I just went for a hike up a cliff near my house and could see the WTC and very changed NYC skyline from there..all I could see was large clouds of ash like from a volcano where the towers used to be...unbelievable that this could happen here. A friend who works on the NY Stock Exchange was just arriving when the first tower was damaged; he turned around and got on a ferry back to NJ and saw the second plane hit from the ferry..thank God he was a little late for work this morning. My husband and I will be going to donate blood as soon as my son gets home safely. My sincere condolences to any friends/relatives of all of the victims today.

As of this moment, the fire is still burning and a threat to other buildings around it. I stood on the street and watched both of the Twin Towers collapse to the ground. This is a sad day for the beautiful city of New York.

The British people are devastated and outraged by today's events.

here in downtown vancouver, canada; i work in a 23 story building and they have sure heightened the security, lots of companies have closed down and as i went down below to the small mall i was surprised to see all the stores closed down. you cannot get in this building now without a access card, where yesterday you could.

From Canada, our deepest sympathy to those who lost loved ones today. Our prayers are with you at this time.

Leone......still looking for a word from you that you're okay......

I live in Houston, energy capital of the US. Downtown employees were sent home this morning. My building is a high rise. Some school districts allowed parents to pick up children early. The news show a lady who was on a plane that had to land in Houston. She could not get a car rental nor a hotel to stay.
My prayers go out to the families of the people in NYC and Wash,DC.
C

If anyone knows how you can help I would like to go downtown tomorrow and lend a hand. I have only seen requests for blood so far but I would like to help some day.

I meant some way not some day

By coincidence, I donated blood YESTERDAY (I mean 9/10). My son and his wife in Reston, VA, tried to donate this afternoon (9/11--sorry, it's still "today" until I go to bed), but they were turned away because of the crowds. Don't forget to try again in a few days--they'll be needing lots of blood for a while, to replenish depleted supplies, if nothing else.

I too was horrified by seeing Palestinians celebrating the "success" of this great "victory." I mourn when I see innocent civilians killed as in the pizza place in Jerusalem, but I also feel sad when I see children killed in Palestine,
even 14- and 15-year-old "children" who are throwing rocks at Israeli soldiers. I think I understand to some degree how helpless and angry and frustrated they feel. But I just cannot comprehend how any human being can rejoice at the murder of so many innocent people.

To help: give blood. Give money to the American Red Cross, who are always there and who will probably have be there again someday, somewhere else. Pray.

Ginny and all friends on Fodors and in New York - our hearts and thoughts go to you. Just reading through your posts has made me cry, I can't imagine the fear you must be feeling - the horror and disbelief we all share. God bless you all.

As a New Yorker, thank you so much for your thoughts. We are scared and full of grief.

My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone in the US. New York is my most favourite city after my home time. I can't believe what has happened. I was only there 2 months ago!!! Be strong and know that there are many, many people around the world who are praying with you.

Anne in Australia
