Ginny Sep 11th, 2001 07:15 AM

Thanks arabella I know it is stupid that I am in on a travel chat room but I am scared here. I also don't know if it is wise for me to be on the 38th fl. but I don't want to leave people I know.

stephanie Sep 11th, 2001 07:19 AM

It's not really stupid to be on this
chat line - it's one of the few means
of communication being that the phone
lines are so tied up. They might be
sending you home anyway - I work on LI
and they're closing my office.
Does anyone know anthing about LIRR trains?

Arabella Sep 11th, 2001 07:26 AM

Ginny,

Getting home will be difficult so you're probably better off in your office with your coworkers. How far away is your home?

ncgrrl Sep 11th, 2001 07:27 AM

Ginny,

Glad to here your friend is ok. I can't even comprehend the horrors you are going through. Please continue to write if it makes you feel better.

Stephanie Sep 11th, 2001 07:31 AM

Ginny, I'm praying for you and everyone around the World Trade Center area and for our country. You can't afford to feel bad at a time like this, if staying connected to people around the country like this comforts you then you should do it. I'm sorry for everything that's happening there. I'm in Kansas and this morning shortly after the plane crashes I saw an airplane high in the sky above my home make a complete circle, obviously being re-routed to another airport or something, evidence even here that this is affecting all of us. We all feel immense sorrow and concern and feel helpless. Hopefully keeping in contact with people helps you.

Stephanie

I am just scared that there will be bedlum when I have to leave. I can walk home from work. But just a few minutes ago people were lined up the cash machines. What is going to happen when night drops? Am I scaring more people I am sorry. I live alone I just am worrying about going home alone. Nothing is coming in or going out of the city. It just feels like a zoo. I guess I should try to leave before nightfall but I am nervous about doing this alone. I guess I am just working my self up it will be ok, yes. I am hopping the worst is over.

stephanie Sep 11th, 2001 07:39 AM

Definitely leave work before nightfall -
you never know what kind of behavior
this type of situation vill invoke in people. Do you have a friend of co-worker you can stay with or have stay with you?

sue Sep 11th, 2001 07:46 AM

i live in vancouver canada and they have stopped all planes here as well.

Arabella Sep 11th, 2001 07:52 AM

That's a very good idea, can you stay with a coworker, friend or neighbor until things are a little calmer?

Ginny Sep 11th, 2001 07:59 AM

I think people in my office are in denial but noone is even talking about leaving. I am giving myself until 4pm. I gave everyone in my office my apartment address because noone knows how they can leave the city. So I will either go over someone else's house or have someone at mine. We have a lot of NJ an CT people in our office.

Jon Sep 11th, 2001 07:59 AM

I live in Toronto Canada and everyone is shutting down here as well.

sue Sep 11th, 2001 08:04 AM

Jon,
yeah, if you look up a few comments toronto is part of canada!! i already mentioned it!!! tell us something new!!!

Arabella Sep 11th, 2001 08:07 AM

Ginny,

Sounds like you have a good plan. Is it business as usual in your office? Is everyone working?

Ginny Sep 11th, 2001 08:13 AM

People were working until there was news of a second plane. We a group of people visiting the office from L.A.. One women was crying they did not have hotel reservations for tonight. I was the only one who gave them my address in the event they get stuck. I could not believe it but I think there are people that when a ship is sinking just refuse to recognize that there is a problem. I mean why wouldn't you say to these 4 women come back or stay with us.

The Federal building in San Diego is on a stage 1 alert and has been evacuated. The border is closed to traffic coming from Mexico. Other buildings here are also closed.

Arabella Sep 11th, 2001 08:21 AM

You were right to open your home to those visitors. This is a time for everyone to pitch in and pull together.

I do hope Leone is all right. He's usually put in a word or two by this time.

Dana Sep 11th, 2001 08:22 AM

You know, as I sit here with tears in my eyes it sure puts things in perspective for all of us. The trolls, stupid questions, nasty comments, all seem pretty trivial right at the moment. May God bless America.

Mellie Sep 11th, 2001 08:27 AM

A friend just called her daughers sister in-law is a stewardess based here in Boston and missed the flight that hit.. she had a dentist appointment..Guess it wasn't her time, but she is hysterical..her friends in the crew were on board.. I watch in sheer amazement and horror that this could happen, we who have never been directly bombed..we have now..Let's pray that the the fourth plane that is missing is found..

Arabella Sep 11th, 2001 08:31 AM

Dana, well said. I guess all we can do is respond to the calls for blood donations, money and prayers.
