trip report

Arrived SFO Friday morning.

Hertz had a HUGE line and they didn't have the car we rented (Expedition for our 5 adults). Even though they told us at the kiosk, they told us to get back in the HUGE line to wait. It was extremely frustrating. We walked to Enterprise and rented from them at the desk.

Anyway, drove down hwy 1. stopped at Half Moon Bay to eat lunch - Pasta Moon. YUM! Drove down Hwy 1 after lunch to Tickle Pink Inn in Carmel Highlands. BEAUTIFUL. We had 3 rooms and they were all beautifully appointed with wonderful views. Highly suggest. Tickle Pink made us dinner reservations at Christophers in Carmel. After complimentary wine/cheese at the Inn, drove to Christophers. yummy, quaint, highly suggest.

next morning, my sis and I drove to Pt Lobos for a morning jog. It was beautiful - one of the most scenic places I have ever been to - and wonderful for jogging/hiking. Got back to our group after breakfast in our rooms - and took everyone back to Pt Lobos. Please remember, one of the adults in our group is physically limited, so we moved slowly as a group. We did the Sea Lion trail around Pt Lobos and then drove the car to just see everything.

Drove to Chateau Julien. Beautiful grounds and location -highly recommend.

Lunched at La Playa Hotel on their terrace in Carmel. Great food, nice view.

Drove back north to San Fran. Checked into Argonaut. Rooms not what we asked for, bell desk tried to help. We found the front desk people to be unhelpful (and somewhat rude). We asked for ADA room for our friend, they didn't have one for us available, and then they put him in a room FAR FAR away from the elevator. Our room was a mess - someone had been chain-smoking in there since 2007 (joke), but it really did smell bad. I enjoy Kimpton hotels, but this one doesn't compare to the service I recieved at others.

Alcatraz Tour at night. Fabulous.

Next day - Golden Gate view points, drove to Muir woods. Fabulous. Lunched at Scoma in Sausalito. Fabulous!!!!!!!! Rest of the afternoon (remember, our group moves slow) some of us napped, others shopped. Teatro Zinzanni at night - this was definitely one of our favorites from the trip. I enjoyed the show in Seattle, and thought the San Fran show was great, too. Highly suggest.

Okay....another morning jog outside....many places to jog along the water. Took cable car to cable car museum. Then drove to Golden Gate National Park. Japanese Tea Gardens, Botanical Gardens, ate lunch at Beach Chalet. back to hotel. some napped, my sis and I walked down the Embarcadero forever and visited the Ferry Building. We just strolled and strolled. We wanted our French friend to have Mexican food that evening- the concierge gave us Maya. It was pretty good....nothing outstanding.

Next morning - 2 of us fly home. the other 3 flew to PHX. They drove to Sedona for overnight in Enchantment. Then they drove to Grand Canyon the next day for helicopter tour with Papillon. It was a quick trip due to time constraints (and physical limitations)

I really appreciate everyone who helped with this trip. I'm sorry my report is so quick - I've got 2 toddlers napping who will wake-up any moment!

I agree with you about Pt. Lobos. It is one the most visually stunning places I've been to. Thanks for the trip report.

Just read your response about Villa Adeste on St. John, US Virgin Islands and the villa not having air conditioning in bedrooms. I'm the builder and owner and wanted to correct that statment, as this villa has had air conditioning in bedrooms since it was built. Hope you will correct any future statments. Thank you.
